Among theater folk, it’s trendy to hate South Pacific (and most R&H in general), but most people overlook what the show is actually about. Being an avid reader, I always read the books that shows are based on, but this one in particular made a very big difference in working with these characters. Almost every R&H show ends up being about culture clash of one sort of another and this one is probably the most confrontational when done well.
